IMMERSE program for aspiring GP clinicians

The NVH IMMERSE Program is designed to give veterinary school graduates the necessary training to become successful general practice clinicians. It’s a full-time job from the start, and will prepare you for your career as an independent veterinarian at our practice.

Designed by Max Mendez, BS, RVT, CVPM Nordhoff Veterinary Hospital’s Hospital Administrator, the program combines online lectures, in-person seminars, cadaver surgery, mentoring and hands-on practical experience. We believe that getting started on the right path in veterinary medicine will allow veterinarians to not only survive but thrive in their career. Not only will you receive valuable medical training from experienced veterinarians, you’ll be learning communication, time management, client-bonding to help you craft the bedside manner that will keep clients raving about you and the medical acuity that will give you confidence in your career. You will also be seeing clients and paid a full salary from day one.

Who is IMMERSE for?

This program is an immersion in general medicine. If you are a graduate of an accredited veterinary school and are interested in getting your career off to a great start, maximizing your learning or a practitioner looking for a career change, the IMMERSE Program will give you the training and experience you need to launch your career in veterinary medicine.

Program Structure

The total commitment is two years. Syllabus topics will be covered on biweekly basis. The program combines in-person/hands-on training, web based learning and live seminars requiring travel.

  • Leadership in the veterinary practice

  • Preventing burnout/compassion fatigue by practicing genuine medicine
  • Dermatology
  • Interpretation of laboratory tests: reading between the numbers
  • Radiographic interpretation
  • Cold laser therapy and its myriad uses
  • Stabilization of the critical patient
  • FLUTD in the cat
  • Basics of Ultrasonography
  • Intermediate Ultrasonography (3-day course)
  • Communication techniques to maximize client compliance
  • Financial management for wealth
  • KPIs: monitoring performance for continuous improvement
  • Common legal issues in the veterinary field
  • Practical antibiotic usage
  • Immune-mediated disease
  • Management of the diabetic patient
  • Getting puppies and kittens started off on the right foot for a happy life

During your training at NVH you’ll be guided by experienced NVH clinicians who are invested in helping you succeed and build your career. We will take the time out every 2 weeks to discuss the unique and challenging cases that come in through the door. Our practice is staffed by credentialed staff members (all staff is CVA or RVT) and a minimum of two RVTs per doctor employed.

About Dr. Nicoleta Popescu

Dr. Nicoleta Popescu was born in Romania into a family of teachers. She inherited her great love of animals from her father who taught veterinary medicine for 50 years and the love of teaching from her mother who taught children to read and write for 40 years. So very naturally, after completing veterinary school Dr. Popescu continued to work in the same University teaching veterinary students microscopic anatomy. Dr. Popescu completed a fourth year of veterinary school at University of Columbia Missouri, and then furthered her knowledge and skills through a year-long internship at Animal Specialty Group in Glendale. Dr. Popescu has been a sought-after general practitioner and has been the medical director and owner of Nordhoff Veterinary Hospital since 2011.

Nordhoff Veterinary Hospital is an independently-owned, progressive small animal facility in Chatsworth, CA committed to practicing advanced medicine with honesty and kindness. We have a superb reputation in the community, making us the go-to practice and recently winning Best of Chatsworth award from the City of Los Angeles, as well as being rated 5 stars on Yelp.

Our exceptional team includes two very experienced, knowledgeable, and caring veterinarians with a total of nearly 40 years of practice between them. Our practice also includes energetic, kind nurses, a high support staff to vet ratio (4+ FTE to 1 DVM), each staff member holds a certification (CVA) or RVT (4 RVTs and 3 taking VTNE this summer) and a hands-on Certified Veterinary Practice Manager.

We offer a varied collection of modern in-house equipment including digital radiography, digital dental radiographs, Samsung HS40 ultrasound, and therapeutic cold laser.
