A Global Impact with Every Vaccine

At Nordhoff Veterinary Hospital, we care for your pets — and for families and communities across the globe. Our mission of kindness compels us to do more. That’s why we’re proud to announce that $1 from every rabies vaccine we give will now be donated to Rabies Free Africa , a nonprofit working to stop rabies-related deaths in Africa.

About Rabies Free Africa

Rabies Free Africa is a program run by Washington State University’s Paul G. Allen School for Global Health. Their mission is simple yet powerful: eliminate rabies as a cause of human death and suffering in Africa.

They work through:

  • Community-based dog vaccination campaigns (dogs cause over 99% of human rabies cases).
  • Reaching remote villages using off-grid vaccine storage solutions.
  • Training and equipping local health professionals.
  • Using technology to track and improve vaccine coverage efficiently.

Why It Matters: Rabies in Africa

Rabies is nearly always fatal once symptoms appear — but it’s also 100% preventable with timely vaccination. Sadly, many people in rural Africa don’t have access to vaccines or treatment.

  • Globally, rabies kills 59,000 people each year — most in Africa and Asia.
  • In Africa, over 21,000 lives are lost annually due to dog-mediated rabies.
  • Nearly half of these victims are children under 15.
  • Lack of access to dog vaccines and bite treatment is the greatest challenge.

How Nordhoff Veterinary Hospital Helps

For every rabies vaccine we give, $1 goes directly to Rabies Free Africa. These donations help:

  • Provide dog vaccines in hard-to-reach communities.
  • Support solar-powered or battery-cooled storage systems.
  • Train local vaccinators and health teams.
  • Prevent tragic, needless human deaths.

When your pet receives a rabies vaccine at Nordhoff Veterinary Hospital, you’re not only protecting them — you’re helping save lives thousands of miles away.

A Hopeful Path Forward

We believe in a world where no one dies from rabies. Rabies Free Africa shares this vision — and together, with your help, we can make it a reality. Thank you for being part of this mission. Whether you’re vaccinating your pet, spreading the word, or simply caring about this cause — you’re making a difference.
